Another mouth to feed

After we had to put Tigger down, we decided (I thought) not to get another pet for awhile.  The kids are still so young and require so much time that we don't have enough time to devote to a pet.  I miss my cat, but I really don't want anything else to take care of right now.  Perhaps when the kids are older, it will be nice to have another pet.  I also mentioned that I do not want another kitten because I am so over the baby stage with pets too!  I want an older cat that is already fixed and declawed.  We adopted a 2 year old cat for my mother in law and she is so sweet and great with her.  I thought we were on the same page.

I brought the kids outside to play and D came home on his lunch break.  He got out of the truck and walked around to the passenger side and pulled out a large cage.  The minute he did, I knew I was in trouble.  He walks up with a rabbit.  Apparently someone at work was getting rid of it.  Which means D must have been in discussion with said person and agreed to take it.  Nowhere in that timeframe did he mention this to me.  The kids of course got very excited and the poor rabbit was scared to death.  If three screaming kids came at me in a cage, I would be scared too.

His name is Petey and he is litter box trained.  The kids like petting him and feeding him carrots.  I made it clear to D that he would be the one to take care of it since I didn't have any say to having another pet.  Of course I have to deal with the kids begging me to got downstairs to see him and then washing their hands after they pet him.

He is cute and he doesn't bite, but I really didn't want another pet.  If D is in charge of taking care of him, he may not stay around that long.  I know he did it for the kids, but really, like we need another mouth to feed in our house!
